TW: racism, racial slurs and physical beatings, spitting, death, murder, torture, death of a child, rape (off page), attempted rape, infidelity, white fragility, white supremacy

This cover makes you think 'cozy' but it's honestly a hard-hitting and very raw look at racism in Australia and war. Beautiful relationships but please make sure you're aware of the TW and in a OK mindset.

TW: racism, police brutality, pandemic, acknowledgments referencing transphobic comedian

Beautiful pros with haunting visuals. A wonderful piece.

Only reason for my low rating was the shout out to Dave Chapelle in the author acknowledgments and what that says to trans (especially trans BIPOC) readers.

TW: emotionally abusive/manipulative past relationship

Very cute. I would have loved a bit of POV from her husbands experience, but over all was sweet, especially Huda's relationship with her parents.

TW: death of family member, mentions of dead birds and global warming effects.

A mix of memior and the author's stream of consciousness all bound together by the facinating Shearwater. Sometimes the book meandered back and forth more than I'm used to in a book, yet it more matched a conversation, of topics weaving back and forth and re-crossing topics after memories or experiences are brought up. A well done mix of nature and memior perfect for fans of either/or of the genre.

TW: racism, Islamophobia, discrimination, death of parent(s) /loved ones.

I've been Scrooged by the oversaturation of Christmas books as the only catagory available as 'holiday books'. No more! Give us more like this!

It was so heartwarming reading many different experiences of Eid from across culture, religious views and life experiences. It felt so comforting and nostalgic (and it's not even a holiday I've experienced)!

Every school and library should carry this book.

TW: creepy doll/puppet, swallowing hair

This horror series took me right back to the days I shivered while reading "A Dark Dark Room" by Alvin Schwarz. Perfectly terrifying for young readers, but always including some silly ideas too.

TW: fingernail horror

TW: death, murder, dictatorship, mentions of rape

Facinating bit of history that was very well researched. My only complaint was it was very textbook at times, which made it difficult for my brain to follow. Overall I enjoyed it though!

TW: death of parents

So happy to see a retelling of a guilty favourite WITHOUT the racism and ableism! Fully embracing culture and disabilities, along with a fun 'prickly' protagonist.
