TW: ableism, internalised ableism, death, blood, graphic injury, police brutality

So much packed into such a small book. The ending was a bit rushed, but was great set-up for Pet to follow.
Emezi also focuses on disability, both physical and mental, which is so intrinsically a part of revolutions and protests but hardly addressed.

TW: suicide, suicide ideation, parental abandonment and abusive parent, internalised ableism, ableism, anxiety and panic attacks, self harm

This book is about my braaain. Such a brilliant portrayal of anxiety and OCD that deal with the heaviness of feeling so alone but the positive aspects of learning about yourself and loving yourself.

TW: suicide, suicide ideation, mockery of suicide and grief, ableism, homophobia, use of the F slur, use of the sp*z slur, fatphobia, teacher/student relationship

Considering I'd fly to the moon and back declaring my never ending love for "Laura Dean keeps Breaking up with me" I found this graphic novel to be the complete opposite. It really hit all the wrong places for me, and while I realise I'm very much in the minority with this negitive review I do want to state I am a queer person who has a slew of mental funsies in my brain, and I didn't feel the handling of the ableism, homophobia and suicide came to any sort of positive conclusion.

TW: death, blood, supremacy

Extreamly well matched art to this classic fable. Odyr's art is fluid and full of colours and style that evoke the mood of each character, moment, and uneasy fragility of the Animal Farm.

TW: racism, intergenerational trauma

Sullivan knocked this out of the park, with subtle to incredibly obvious critiques of colonisation, racism, and intergenerational trauma. But also there is joy: joy in whānau, nature, community, and in sailing both the stars and the sea.

TW: physical and emotional abuse, manipulation, death, graphic death of a pet, dog attack

A life of neglect, abuse and unending trials, this was quite harrowing and I'd def. reccomend checking the trigger warnings before venturing a read.

TW: fatphobia, bullying, racism, misogynior, physical and emotional abuse, harrassment, denial of medical care

A brilliant book that everyone should be reading. Fatphobia, internalised self hate, racism, it covers so much - but celebrates too. Us white folk can learn a lot (and not appropriate)!

TW: racism, homophobia, trabsphobia, drug use, emotionally abusive/manipulative romantic partner, police raids

A fresh, queer, varied Black sci-fi anthology based on the world of Monáe's short film. Some of my favourite Black authors co-write each story and I liked some more than others, but def enjoyed them all.

TW: blood, gore, death, abuse, attempted rape, misgendering, homophobia, 'racism'

I love a good angry trans "don't give an ****" book, but this one felt a bit underdeveloped in some areas and rushed in others. It's still got good, clever moments, just left me wanting.

TW: racism, mentions of past sexual assault, slavery, death, sexual trauma

A strong sequel. Raven was brilliant trans character and there was so much parallel with today's struggles. I loved seeing women allowed to be strong, but vulnerable, and able to work through trauma.
