In this third, and arguably best, installment of the Spice Isle Bakery Series, Lyndsay Murray once again finds herself working to solve a murder that has shaken her local community. While no one in her family is on the suspect list this time, Lyndsay still finds herself looking into the murder of local reggae singer Camille and decides to team up with police detective Bryce Jackson to help the investigation (and absolutely nothing to do with his knee-buckling good looks, of course).
The themes of community and family run strong COCONUT DROP DEAD, a continuation from the series' previous installments. Easily one of my favorite elements of the Spice Isle series (besides the descriptions of food!) are the vivid and colorful characters that make up the Murray family-- who prove, time and time again, that there is a true strength in numbers and familial bonds.
Lyndsay herself has grown as a main character-- in previous books, the narration felt monotonous, focusing a lot on Lyndsay's stress concerning the bakery and her family. But I was pleasantly surprised with the development and change of pace for this latest book, Lyndsay's newfound confidence and assertiveness lend well to her character!
A great choice for a lover of modern cozy mysteries, I can't wait for the next installment of the Spice Isle Bakery Series!

Grab your largest gardening hat and plenty of sunscreen, because the cutest enemies to lovers of the spring season has arrived!
Determined to not let the last four years of consecutive loss get her down, Gillian has decided that this is her year to win the Willow Cove Gardening Competition. Her garden beds are lush with romantic flowers, her grass as green and soft as a lawn care commercial, and her overall yard design? Impeccable. However, what Gillian doesn't count on is Noah West moving in next door.
Things I loved about this book: the gardening (specifically Gillian's passion for it), the slow burn, and the community of Willow Cove. The second stand-alone novel in a series, there were plenty of well-developed and interesting secondary characters that provided plenty of laughs!
This would be a great option for people looking for a sweet, non-spicy romance novel to welcome in spring!

Unbearably sweet and the perfect second installment of the Wildflower Lock Series, COFFEE AND CAKE follows Daisy May as she starts to her newest ventures-- opening a desperately needed coffee shop aboard her canal boat and finding love in expected, and unexpected, places.
Similar to the first book, COFFEE AND CAKE is a quick read, but what I love most about this series is the exploration of life on narrowboats and Daisy May's tenacity at working towards her goals (with a little help every once and a while)! A great choice for a spring read, I can't wait for the next installment of this series!

The final part of The Celestial Kingdom duology, HEART OF THE SUN WARRIOR begins almost immediately after the ending of The Daughter of the Moon Goddess. Xingyin has embraced a life of peace with her mother on the Moon-- still healing from the loss of her power, she fills her days with tranquil walks with Liwei and enjoying time with her loved ones. However, a new threat once again arises and Xingyin finds herself fighting not only for her own life, but for the lives of all those she cares for and the kingdom itself.
Lush and emotional, SUN WARRIOR is a sequel worth of DOTMG. Its focus on interpersonal relationships and character development go hand in hand with the action filled plot. While some people will prefer to leave Xingyin's story with the end of DOTMG (and that is 100% okay! It's a beatiful story and is tied up so nicely at the end of the first book!), it was a fascinating opportunity to see how characters grow and ultimately change over the course of their journies.

Unexpectedly heartwarming and tender, THE SIRENS OF SOLEIL CITY explores motherhood, friendship, and the intricacies of mother/daughter relationships as we age. Bound together by the complicated ties of family, three generations of women (and a cast of other memorable characters) work towards saving the Soleil City apartment complex from gentrification. Their brilliant idea? To enter a local geriatric synchronized swimming competition to bring awareness to their community (as well as the cash prize of $10,000).
SIRENS' wit and poignancy makes it a wonderful choice for a makes-you-feel-all-the-feels summer read!
