A fun read. One of the better books I've read in the "cozy crime" genre. The humour and little asides suited my sense of humour and though the plot seemed a little mis-paced and loose, overall it was a very enjoyable read; I'll definitely be reading the next in the series.
I listened to this as an audiobook read spectacularly well by Cathleen McCarron which no doubt added to my enjoyment. It's not a book I would normally have listened to of it weren't for all the positive comments I'd seen and heard about it. It was very cleverly written balancing sudden bouts of humour, deep insights into solitary living and an unsettling undercurrent of something to be revealed. I found Eleanor extremely relatable despite the extremeness of her life and it was fun to see the absurdities of life through her eyes.
I had no knowledge of the plot or genre of the book before I started it, and if I hadn't heard it mentioned as uplifting I would have been wondering if it was a slow burn psychological thriller or horror from the first third of the book. Over all a very intriguing combination.

It's a heck of a ride (unexpectedly full of real drama). The women are great and there's real development and sisterly-ness but the "romance" misses the mark for me. The men were all unappealing and too easily excused - yes even Brandon.
