I first read this book a many years ago after reading the Belgariad and Mallorrean and looking for another bit of friendly escapism. I didn't really remember much about it other than the start and end so thought I'd give it another go. It's very long with a lot of battles and tactics which aren't my favourite part of a fantasy book. It's very in keeping with Eddings' style, the characters are familiar and generally likable. It's confusing in places and it repeats itself a bit though I think it's necessary for the plot. Overall not my favourite and I probably won't read it again in a hurry.
