A fun, fast paced, all American soap opera! 

This story is more about the people attending the wedding and how their lives are intertwined than a murder. Yes. A murder does happen. You know it’s coming. But the actual murder and wrap up don’t happen until the last 50ish pages. Everything else is a slow build of getting to know these characters, quite a shady lot of characters. 

This is a complex story about race, socio-economic class, our perception (much of which is based on the aforementioned), and intentions. While I found the story, dialogue, and characters lacking in some areas, I did enjoy this quick, easy read overall. The relationship between Emira and Briar are the true joy in this book. 

This story had the potential to be powerful and reflective. Instead the writing is lackluster, the characters are dull, and the storyline doesn’t quite connect with the reader. I should’ve wanted to cheer for these women. Instead I found them constantly complaining and whiny. Nina’s story was somewhat interesting. But the overall appeal just isn’t there.
