a fun adventure story of exploring the depths of the sea
tbh this book gives me strong queer YA fantasy under tones. the main character is a french man who finds himself on Captain Nemo’s submarine the Nautilus. there were many scenes that really glorified nemo and made him like a broody angsty mystery man in every YA fantasy which i thought was hilarious. there was also some tropes such as Nemo only paying attention to the main character man and ignoring the other characters and there was also a whole scene dedicated to discussing how his bedroom was right next to capt nemos which i thought was funny.
besides that it was a fun adventure story with exploration and knowledge but it is also a product of its time and has some extremely racist view points expressed upon finding “natives” on multiple islands

this book was overhyped. i saw it in all the current reads postings on instagram and book boxes. but it was very dull.
The plot follows two women one American visiting london after discovering her husband is having an affair and one apothecary owner in 17th century london who only gives remedies and poisons to women. These two women’s stories are intwined after the american discovers a vile from the apothecary shop in the Thames and begins researching it. The story highlights various struggles of women throughout time and how these women stand up for themselves and fight back. But even with all that, the story was extremely dull
the writing is okay and the story and plot are very predictable and read like the author came up with the prompt after discovering something similar to the character Caroline does and then deciding to write this story. the characters were not very interesting and pretty flat.
the research aspect of Caroline’s story was unrealistic which was frankly annoying being that is her main plot. there’s no way she’d do that to the vile at the end.
the aesthetic is the best part of the book but overall the story was lacking and the ending left me feeling the plot was unresolved somehow.
it also kept reinstating how women’s stories get lost to history since the patriarchy oppressed them which is great and all and women deserve better but this was deprecated so often it was boring. the main culprit of this being Nella but i also highly doubt Nella would’ve had this foresight in her time.
cute recipes at the end

so i reread this as an audiobook. it was done very well and they had different voice actors for the various chapters from different povs which was cute.
it’s a love story of a woman who doesn’t know what she’s doing with her life getting employed as a paraplegic’s companion. It’s very soap-opera-y and rom com. i liked it the first time i read it but it’s honestly just ok. i think it’s definitely raising awareness of the struggles paraplegics face everyday and the problems they face but i do think that at times it is problematic and i wonder what a paraplegic’s opinion on this book is. story wise though it’s very generic with the pretty quirky weird girl and the rich brooding man.
this book seemed unbearably long the second time reading/listening to it and i dunno if i’m just numb rn but it didn’t do it for me.
The movie trailer is very misleading.

this book was fine
it follows four different peoples lives living in communist invaded prague. it tells stories of these peoples lives and how they’re interconnected and how they love one another and struggle through life. there’s honestly no real plot so i’m confused how it was made into a movie it’s very character based.
it has some beautiful thoughts sporadically throughout it but overall ita sorta boring. i don’t know much about communist history so i was left a bit confused by some of the events in the story so i will have to go look into that.
