The concept is cool but it was a shit book.

The first 300 out of the 400 pages were unnecessary and boring as hell. They give you context and background to the magic and character's backstory but there was absolutely nothing exciting happening at all.

It has a Narnia meets harry potter aspect to it but for adults. Except it's more like if Holden Caulfield went to Hogwarts but was obsessed with the Narnia books. The characters are eh. They have little to no development.

There were lots of metaphors and moments where the author was trying to be deep and philosophical about life but it seemed forced and not actually meaningful.

The author uses discriminatory slang terms and is extremely misogynistic. Also, half the book is the characters randomly being stripped naked for no clear reason.

EDIT: started watching the tv show from syfy and can honestly say for the first time in my life that the show is better than the books.

Like if The Social Dilemma was a sci fi novel.

Spooky and thrilling.
A little outdated at times but it is an old book.
Interesting how the author wrote the main character to have no description or name and how she worked around that the whole book. I also loved how the main character would go on these little imaginative scenarios often.
spooky and perfect for october
