Very corny and cliche. Thankfully it got me out of my reading slump though with it's fast paced storyline and lots of action. I liked the characters as individuals but I find that their relationships were lacking and didn't make sense. Also the fact that every single guy was attracted to our main heroine was quite boring and frankly annoying even with her independent woman stand point. It all seemed forced and lacking. It appears that the author took the popular aspects of other YA dystopians and smushed them together as much as she could. However, the idea of the story was fresh and new with blatant although interesting metaphors for oppression and an interesting society all around. There was also a lack of description about any of the surroundings and characters which made it difficult to understand and imagine and points. It also include quite a few scenarios that seemed utterly preposterous and ridiculous however it was a fun, light little read.
Not that great. I wish the series stayed as a trilogy. It felt unfinished and unclosed in the end. I realize the author is trying to make the main character really "girl powery" which is good but at times it gets repetitive and overdone. However, I do appreciate the fact that Eadlyn is very self sufficient.
Ruthless.
Veronica Roth is Ruthless.
(I suggest to stop reading at page 416 for a happy ending)
