she lost sight of the plot. there are absolutely no stakes in this series so every battle is ridiculous since you know everyone is going to survive. aelin has such a traumatic story but then never acknowledges it or struggles with it and always has a happy ending. there is also far too many people and too many plots and it is clear sarah j maas lost track

tandem read with Tower of Dawn

I’m finally enjoying this series but i really think the tandem read was what made these two books so good. the contrast of the characters storylines when you switched between books was 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

i really don’t know why she wrote these as two separate books because there’s no way i would have made it through  this book it would’ve been too slow and i don’t really care for chaol

i still hate the mind speak between couples and the fact that every character is paired up in a hetero relationship by the end.

i really ended up loving nesryns relationship with ___ in this book. i think it’s my favorite pairing of the series.

also 0/10 do not read this on public transport the spicy scene was 🌶🌶🌶 and also read like fanfiction

the plot twist at the end were completely a surprise and i think her writing has gotten better in this one
medium-paced

Exploring the lives of six female pharaohs and how they ruled in a generally patriarchal society. Diss used women and feminity and how often women of power don ‘masculine’ traits and clothes to be acknowledged by men in power and by society. Whether it be a female pharaoh representing herself with a masculine crown or a modern female politician wearing a suit.

When the title says When Women Ruled the World i was expecting different women in power around the world throughout history not just egypt. It was a little disheartening to feel that only women in egypt ruled but I do realize it was written by an egyptologist which is why it focuses on egypt. I wish there were focused on english queens and asian queens and other ruling women as well though.

Also a few of the queens stories were pretty similar in how they manipulated the crown and ruled for sons so it was a bit repetitive but still interesting.

why is this book 600+ pages
absolutely nothing happens until the last 100 pages and the characters are so flat and boring. all of the plot points has no challenge in them and the characters easily obtained everything. the ending was exciting but i can’t believe i just read 500 pages of set up for that
some of the plot points seem completely random ie lysandra
chaol is finally not my least favorite character anymore
