A-Force, Volume 1: Hypertime
Kelly Thompson, Marguerite Bennett, Jorge Molina, G. Willow Wilson, Jim Cheung
A-Force started in the middle of BattleWorld, and it's come very far since those first issues last year. Plus Kelly Thompson (JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS) is now also writing with Wilson, and the results are FAB. I love this all-lady team with all of my shriveled heart.
This is Kelly Sue's final story with Carol Danvers, and I was NOT ready. Set in a BattleWorld-world, this alternate universe filled with Captain Marvel and her Carol Corps (total love-fest for the fans) made this fangirl get a bad case of the FEELZ. I miss you, Kelly Sue. <3
I can't heap enough praise upon this series, and it just gets better and better. I ADORE the Batgirls issue; it was so much fun to see Alysia Yeoh and Felicity Smoak fighting crime at home in Gotham while Batwoman is off fighting the Axis of Evil.
The art, the unapologetic feminism, the heartbreak - I just love this series.

I heard the trend of Cancer YA Books described as SickLit. (Ok, and maybe I laughed a tiny bit because there are a LOT of those books out there.)
TELL ME SOMETHING REAL could technically fall into this category, but it is NOT the book that you think it's going to be. (No spoilers here, I promise!) What I CAN tell you is that the full range of emotional experience that one has when a parent is sick and/or dying is on display, including the ones that make us uncomfortable, like anger and exhaustion.
I'll never look at apricots the same way again.
