Marchetta is a master at the complex subtleties of human relationships. Don't be put off by the fantasy setting. This series is some of her best work.

If you're looking for lots of action, this book isn't for you. Rather it has a good story, strong characters, romance and courtly intrigue. And some very lovely prose!
