I did not enjoy this story as much as book two, but what I do love about it os the trans joy. The relationship is really wonderful and I'm so glad this book exists.

I received a free ARC from Libro.fm for this title.
I kind of desperately wanted to like this book and mostly just find myself confused. I think I may have to admit that thrillers are just not my genre.
There are a lot of aspects about this character that I want to like. A messy enby who is confused about their identity to the point that they don't have a name but they just don't want to go by their given name, someone deep in the struggle just clawing to make it through the day, unlikely friendships born of mutual need-- Usually that would super resonate with me. And I just... am mostly confused.
It does broach the topic of how being injured doesn't act as an excuse to go around further injuring everyone else. And I think that is the aspect which most of my issues inhabit. There is a lot of stray punches thrown by a character who is hurting and trying to figure themself out, and I just kinda hated it.
I will say this book is well written. The narrator has a distinctive voice that carries through the whole book, and that is what allowed me to finish it. I just wasn't all there for the plot or characters.

I am reading through some Nevada authors and was so thrilled to find this book because of that! It's a novella that has a well crafted world and interesting characters, and I enjoyed my time here. You can really feel Jamnia's heart and knowledge throughout the book.
The helpless ditsy female trope is not for me. Also the facts of the world are already in question 36 minutes into the world and I'm tapping out.
