Done. Finally. But how boring...

So much hatred and willful ignorance in such a short book...

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I've seen it on bookshelves in stores for a while now and been curious, but this was a fun and informative read with all the cursing a girl could desire.

A very brief but satisfying drabble. :-)

I guess I thought this would be more interesting/entertaining? It was enjoyable, but that's about it.

Every single bit of this book is brilliantly beautiful. And while I chose it for the cover, I bawled over the love story and the children. I cheered for the good and the just. I will say I want more, but this story is perfect as is.

Can we talk about how great it is to have a book set in Louisiana, in the swamps, and the characters not be stereotyped?! This was fantastic!

There's a sort of rougarou, some giant leucistic creatures, and wonderful magic. I love this story!

So I'm fully aware that I've barely scratched the surface of this issue. This book is definitely a needed step for white people to begin properly addressing systemic and internalized racism head on.

As the book states, albeit in better words, racism is a white problem. We need to be the ones to fix it. And we do that one step at a time. It will be an ongoing and lifelong process, but it is a worthwhile process.

To all the POC in my life, if I do or say something racist, please call me out promptly if you have the spoons and comfort level to do so. I promise to keep my white fragility in check, learn from what I did wrong, and do better going forward.

Note: This book is written by a white woman. That is problematic in some respects and she acknowledges that within the book.

Oh this was delightful! So much fun to read and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series! Although, it totally could have been a stand-alone, I think. (But I'm glad that it's not!)
