I loved this book! I read it mostly in one night (finished in the morning because I passed out during the last chapter due to exhaustion - not the book). I absolutely cannot wait for the rest of the series. The ending was perfect for the flow of the book and, while I originally didn't realize just how many sex scenes there would be, the author kept them realistic, achievable, and fun.

I am struggling with finding eloquent words to describe how much I loved this book!!!

Unlike the previous book, I can really see myself in this character's shoes. My two most serious relationships (a marriage and an engagement) have ended with my husband/fiancé cheating on me. The hurt, the trust issues, the feelings of abandonment and betrayal, the feelings of inadequacy - all of these things are captured perfectly by +Gina Drayer. As is the knowledge that the cheater would have cheated regardless.

Don't get me wrong, it's not a dark depressing read, but Gina does a fantastic job of making you feel what her characters are feeling. Unfortunately for me, I haven't met a sexy one night stand to fix my problem, but one night stands aren't really for me. I'm covered under the final tip with my Modern Girl Choices, by the way! :-)

Disclaimer: I received an ARC from the publisher for an honest review.

You know those books that you want to like, but don’t and can’t figure out why? What about those books that are so poorly written you can barely get past the words to read the story? Or maybe you’re aware of those books that start out with such potential and then just fall short of the mark and you’re more disappointed than anything?

Well you’re in luck! Clockwork Menagerie is none of those! I will freely admit that I have not read the first two books in A Shadows of Asphodel series, but I’m rectifying that mistake very soon. I’m not going to say that the novella is 100% stand-alone, because I do think it would have made more sense to me and been even more enjoyable if I had read the preceding books, but I could barely put this book down. I started reading it one evening, passed out while reading (I’m sure you bookworms know that problem), and was almost late to work because I simply had to finish it the next morning.

"Winter Wolf" by R.J. Blain is fantastic!

It's a great follow-up book to Inquisitor even if it does chronologically come before the first book. Because I love Blain's books and how they're written, I'm going to include just a few bits of the things that I love about these books that aren't really about the story. Does that make sense? I don't know... Whatever!

Jurassic Park references. Yes, she references Jurassic Park in a joke to a Detective. It's wonderful!

The way Dominic and Nicole both express my feelings of dogs in various ways and their interactions with each other! "... if another one of those rats nips at my ankles, I’ll kick it." Not that I would ever kick a dog, but those little yippy ones irk me. "Making faces at his affection, I wiped my mouth off with the back of my hand. 'Gross. Don’t you two know I don’t like dogs?'" Yeah, I'm not too fond of the licky dogs either...

There's an entire conversation about rapist, ideals, and proper justice that I would love to quote and while it doesn't really give away any major spoilers, it does give you a look into a relationship that develops a little later in the story that I don't want to ruin for any future readers. Just keep your eyes open for it and love it when it shows up!!!

And the ending... I love it!!!

Anyways, this book really does have it all. Drugs, prostitutes, schooling, dragons, vampires, a unicorn, hallucinations, sex, kidnapping, arson, revenge, dystopian setting that just gets worse – you name it! It’s fast paced, hilarious, action-packed, and just delightful!

I give this book 5.0 out of 5.0 stars because it was so much fun to read. If you enjoy dystopian or post-apocalyptic stories mixed with humor, then this is the book for you.

I love Meg. She’s a badass and doesn’t care what people think. Peter is pretty awesome and when shit hits the fan, his first thought is of Megan and I can totally get behind that. Oh, and Meg is a writer. Did I forget that? Within the book, she’s a writer and she writes erotic stories. Best selling erotic stories. She’s also a college professor, but her real income is from her writing. She’s amazing. And that shit that hits the fan? It only boosts her career as a writer. She’s so cool!

This book deserves all 5.0 out of 5.0 stars and maybe even a few bonus stars. I actually let my kindle get drenched in the rain because the morning it came out I started reading it and the drive to work was too long. WIthdrawals. As soon as I parked, I was powering up the kindle and reading while trying to get out of the truck with my stuff. It took me almost fifteen minutes (in pouring rain) to get inside because I could not stop reading. By the way, that epilogue. I’m dead.

So when is Kim’s book coming out?! She’s next for the Modern Girl’s Guide book series and I absolutely cannot wait! Kim’s book will be educational, I’m sure!
