This one had a bit of a twist with the male being the mortal, but still too much of the same old stuff.
At least in this one the "hero" is legitimately a bad guy. Well, until the end when she takes off some character layers and plays the "he's just misunderstood" card... And really, if I read the word "shaft" again, it will be too soon! o_O
This was sweet and a little sad. A wonderful accompaniment to the main books.
This was powerful to the point of bringing tears to my eyes.
Not once did I actually laugh, but it was pretty funny and the illustrations were amusing. I expected it to be much more lame, for some reason. I'm glad it wasn't. :-)
Billy and Scathach make a fantastic team. I hope to see more of them together! :-D

The very worst thing about this book is that there isn’t more information in the epilogue. :-(
The very best thing about this book is the return to Ember, of course. I enjoyed the imagery and idea of Ember and to return to the city, even in less than desirable circumstances, was a real treat for me.

The very worst thing about this book is the dog. I hate dogs.
The very best thing about this book is the story line. As a stand-alone short story, it’s not too terrible. As part of the incredible Books of Ember series, it falls terribly short.
I’m glad I read this first instead of third (publication order) because I would have been even more disappointed in this book if I had already read “The City of Ember” and “The People of Sparks” before this prequel.
