I loved this. There were some odd spots that didn't seem to fit right with the original trilogy - like when a witch makes a bunch of stuff invisible instead of just herself even though I'm pretty sure the original trilogy limited visibility to just the witch, but maybe I'm wrong. It didn't take away from the story, though, so it's all good! I loved Malcolm and Asta. And little Lyra and Pan!!!
I finally read how Lee Scoresby and Iorek Byrnison met and it's wonderful!!
Lyra's story never fails to entertain me. it's been a while since I've read His Dark Materials and I had forgotten how delightfully sacrilegious they are. 😹
Yay! We finally meet Will! I love how delightfully complex Will is; it doesn't matter that he's still a child, he's experienced the darker side of humanity (differently from Lyra) and his moral compass is still quite intact.
I always forget how immensely powerful the ending of this trilogy is! And how many fascinating insights it makes into humanity.
That seems pretty darn applicable to our world.
She told me many things … She said that all the history of human life has been a struggle between wisdom and stupidity. She and the rebel angels, the followers of wisdom, have always tried to open minds; the Authority and his churches have always tried to keep them closed. She gave me many examples from my world.
That seems pretty darn applicable to our world.
So I'm going to do a two part review. {There's a bit of a spoiler under the story portion.}
Audiobook:
I thought the narration and voices were awesome. I especially enjoyed the effect that was used to indicate that a character was thinking something rather than speaking aloud. Jack Vorace's voice was pleasant to listen to without being distracting. I was able to fall into the story easily, which is important because I usually listen to audiobooks only for nonfiction or stories that I have already read traditionally because it's so easy to end up focusing on something besides the story and missing out.
Story:
I enjoyed the characters and the way everything was written. I especially enjoyed that Harper Overall, without more spoilers, I really liked the story. Enough that I'm glad the narrator sent me audible codes for the whole series because I'll be listening to the next one soon!!
Disclaimer: I received Audible review codes from Jack Voraces for this book in exchange for a review.

Spoiler
didn't suddenly become the most powerful character ever in some weird plot twist. When she first learned that she would eventually be able to do magic, that was a worry of mine.Disclaimer: I received Audible review codes from Jack Voraces for this book in exchange for a review.
Oh my Nokley! This was fantastic! I'm starting the next book this afternoon and, I noticed this last night, there's another first book that seems to be in the same universe (based on the series title) that just came out earlier this month! I can't wait and I know nothing about the book outside of the author, title, and series title! Hahaha!
