I went into this book thinking that it was going to be a love story, which I don't think it really was. Peter Lake and Beverly were barely together, and they didn't reconnect in the end, which is what I felt like I was reading towards the entire time. While the writing was typically lyrical, I felt that the story was overly complicated and described to death, which made it very dense and hard to read at times. I don't think it needed to be almost 800 pages. Maybe my expectations were set too high after seeing advertisements for the movie. I will say that I liked the connections between the characters in the book and the way different elements kept reappearing, making it into a puzzle. Peter Lake and Anthansor were great characters and I would have liked them to make more appearances in the book.
