A friend sent me this one and if she hadn’t, I don’t think I ever would have grabbed it! It’s about things (and people) that go missing, and where they go when they do, and I think I was expecting more of a thriller when instead it’s more fantastical. It’s an interesting premise but it fell flat for me overall. I wasn’t super hooked by it and found it to be much longer than it needed to be and slower than I had hoped, and I also didn’t find a single character likable. 😬 It took me a while to get into it (probably since I was expecting something very different) and the ending totally didn’t work for me... all in all, cool premise but not a great read sadly!
Anybody else watch and love the show Younger?! I think it’s SO fun that this book from the show is actually published in real life... it’s such an inception situation! (The author is a fictional character in the fictional show, who writes this book as a fictional take on her own marriage... 🤯) I found it to be such a fun read (and it would be even if you have zero knowledge of the show or anything!) and a great and breezy chick lit book with a strong Eat Pray Love vibe too.
Okay, this was better than the last Giffin read, but I still wasn’t super into it. I didn’t like any of the characters or enjoy reading about their lives, I found their attitudes and dynamics frustrating, and it wasn’t really uplifting or fun to read at all. Honestly, don't bother with this one.
This was definitely NOT my favorite of the Giffin novels I’ve read— the romantic relationships were super awkward and made me uncomfortable (like, the girl has a crush on her BFF’s dad after he lost his wife…) and the sports focus felt a little forced and overplayed too… I’d read other books by her and pass on this one. (ps— trigger warnings for relationship abuse/rape)
Thank you Random House for the free book — it was my first book of February and I wanted it to be a fun one, but it didn’t really do it for me. I ended up getting halfway through before finding myself uninterested and ready to move on. I skimmed the second half and got the gist and called it a day. Not my fave! Anybody read and liked other books by Kinsella? It was my first by her but I know she’s written a lot!
This one was like that whole “expectations vs reality” meme mixed with a choose your own adventure story set in a chick flick... and I enjoyed it! It plays out in two parallel storylines based on one crucial choice the main character makes in the beginning, and it was really cool to see both plots unfold as a result! There’s a lot of talk of fate and love and what’s meant to be, so maybe not the book for “true love” cynics. I first LOVED The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by her, and have loved going back to her older books — she’s definitely a favorite of mine now.
THIS BOOK. I don’t even know what to say because I don’t want to ruin a single bit of it... but wow. I loved it.
