I must admit that I was strongly considering dnfing this book. When reading a gothic house book, I'm expecting a certain atmosphere, especially when it is horror, which this book sorely lacked. It was not scary in the slightest, in fact, I found many of the supposedly scary scenes laughable. The book did have some interesting ideas, but I feel those were never explored thoroughly enough. The main character's actions also regularly did not make any sense to me.
