Overall, I did enjoy my time with this book. It reminded me of Doctor Who (in a good way, I love that show) and the characters were very lovable. I enjoyed the prophecy and reincarnation aspects of the story a lot and the writing was very nice. the ending was also moving.
however, the adventure did feel a tad repetitive andidk if Obi is just trying to be comforting or whatever but him saying the Emperor wouldn't kill Xavier because he was a Hero felt like a big plot hole when he did, in fact, just try to kill all of them. so, either the character is being delulu or it's a plot hole. either way, it annoyed me

the timeline was confusingly written so the rating is for that, not the story that was horrific and true. hard to believe people like Shelly actually exist.
The atmosphere of it all ✨ it really reminded me of my grandma's hometown and how I feel each time I go there. I also enjoyed the dream aspect so idk what Johns' professor was smoking. this is more of literary horror than horror horror, so don't go into this expecting that. the horror here is grief. I've come to find I really enjoy these more literary-type horrors that explore loss, grief and other strong emotions through horror elements. it's just so delicious every time 🤌
I do love folktales and books taking place in the woods, so this duology delivered in that aspect. I did enjoy the first book more than the second one. Silver's character started grating on me in that one. bonus for the gays and the cat
gay angels being gay and hedonistic. gorgeous, lush prose and very horny without much actual horniness. a two-part tragedy, sacrilegious and not for the faint of heart. I did take a long time reading the first part because it felt like it was just dragging on with constant descriptions of the hedonistic lives of angels in heaven.
a fiction novel following a Palestinian family living in the occupied West Bank. this book portrays the different ways that Palestinians respond to occupation and asks what the right way to resist it is. the book does not really answer this question and leaves it up to the reader. it definitely made me think
A good resource for debunking regular Zionist talking points! (not that they are likely to care 🙄)
Israel and the US always at the scene of the crime...
In all seriousness, a very important read! a thorough accounting of how Israel's weapon industry is based on testing their weapons on the Palestinian people and then using their "battle-tested" status as a selling point. Israel also does not care who it sells weapons to and its weapons have been used in countless massacres, war crimes and genocides. And if you are a violent anti-Semite? no matter, we will sell to you too! (the irony)
anyway, I'm angry. Free Palestine, down with the occupation!
