This was a fascinating look at ethics and ways of navigating the world, especially when it feels more and more difficult to be a good person. Shur dove into this topic with humor and intellect, and presented the information in a way that was really easy to understand. Outside of the book itself, the quality of this audiobook was incredible! Using cast members from The Good Place made it even better, and the Janet *bing* was a wonderful touch for the footnotes. 

This book is one I consider to be a "magic" book. It's the one book that I can always get kids to read, even if they don't like reading. So, I had to read it! Most of it was pretty basic and simple, a survival story that wasn't that interesting. There was a lot of info-dumping. But, once I figured out the twist, it got so much better. It made for a really intriguing and exciting read, and one that I ended up enjoying. I think the ending could have been a little better, and the pacing more consistent (it went 0-60 pretty quick), but still very interesting and I totally get why my students enjoy it. 

So precious. And Nick coming out to his mom was just wonderful.

I think my biggest issue was I didn’t quite get the focus of the book. I couldn’t tell if she was encouraging people to write down their stories or just sharing hers, or a little of both. I did enjoy it, but I just felt like some more clear focus would have been helpful.
