Carey is always at her best when she is writing something that's one part looming darkness and two parts taking out your heart to crush it repeatedly under a boot heel all while wanting more.

This is a mostly 4 star book to me that veers into some terf nonsense and transphobic weeds and as a result I just can't score it

Whether you believed at one time, believe now, or never believed in the first place (where I fall), it's undeniable that Bob Lazar tells a pretty exciting story here.
