David Sedaris audiobooks got me through 2020. There will never be enough of them.
Snow White and a few trusted Dwarves go to the neighboring kingdom to save Sleeping Beauty. Lovely illustrated novella, perfect for reading aloud.
CW for rape, abusive relationships, violence against women
A Y.A. contemporary novel about a young singer who gets her big break when she's taken under the wing a one of the world's biggest superstars. But something terrible happens.
This was book was good, and so important. I did feel the ending was rushed. I was hoping for more of a whodunit, but that ended up being a very tiny part of the overall story. The focus was on the relationship, how it started, how it spiraled, and the complicity of adults/industry who could intervene to prevent abuse but don't.

Okay. I don't totally know how to feel about this. While reading I really struggled with the inconsistent pacing and the odd writing-style. I really had to force myself to keep going. However, now that I'm finished I'm left in awe. The whole thing was horrifying and hopeful and beautiful and terrible. The writing style, while difficult during the slower parts, was perfect for the intense and scary parts. The cultural commentary and character work was excellent. The ending was perfect.

Overall I liked this. It was a fun twist on a whodunit and I enjoyed the ride.
My biggest issue was the large cast of characters. For the first half I couldn't keep anyone straight and it made the beginning a bit of a slog. There were just way too many who could be classified as 'generic British guy' and I kept mixing them up. A few of the characters were interesting, but mostly bland.
Things picked up though and it was fun until the end. Intense and thrillery and all the good things you want from this kind of
Bonus points for the creeeepy plague doctor!
