alisarae's Reviews (1.65k)

OMG OMG OMG OMG SO SO GOOD. Heavily influenced by Shirley Jackson. I am thrilled to have read this.

The audiobook version I listened to was poorly directed, but the play itself is great!

I had lots of issues with this book, most of which were related to the writing. So many redundant questions and repetitive information that I wouldn't recommend it unless it miraculously gets some heavy editing.

A more detailed review is upcoming on Papercuttts.

In the future, the sun is on the verge of death and its solar rays are out of control. Humans live in underwater colonies to be protected from the sun, but the air supply is going sour and one ridiculously optimistic woman believes she has a way to save humanity… and her family. Full-color, richly illustrative, of course I love the way that undersea animals have evolved into beautiful scary creatures.
For fans of: metaphysics (the plot revolves around if positive thinking determines reality), dystopias, light sci-fi

I think listening to an audio version would have been better than reading this. For some reason, I expected this to be a self-depreciating collection of comedic essays on Fey's childhood and pre-fame experiences. The focus is more on her work at NBC.

So many scary books and movies have been based off this book, so sometimes it felt like I had read it before. That's a collective cultural narrative if I ever saw one.

Longer review to come.

It exceeded my expectations--the whole book addresses grief and loss in a refreshing and real way.
