Since I don’t like magic realism or absurdist humor, this book wasn’t for me! I liked the narrative of Pilate and Jesus but the rest was very chaotic and I feel let down that I didn’t really enjoy reading it. Even after reading an essay that explains what is so subversive about the book (besides the on the nose sacrilege) I still lacked knowledge/appreciation for the cultural aspects.

Good setting, fun characters... I thought the mystery would be solved in the end, but it wasn't so I guess I'm reading the rest of the series!

First read: Nov 2012
Second read: April 2018
Third read: Dec 2021

The middle books are my favorite part of the HP series. Rowling has hit her stride and all is right at Hogwarts (well, almost).

A little slow and discombobulated in the beginning but I'm glad I stuck with it! Great characters.

This was humorous and entertaining but I skimmed a lot of it. If you understand math and physics you would probably enjoy it more than I did, but I do appreciate that Munroe makes science more accessible. Let's call him Neil deGrasse Tyson for millennials.

My favorite parts were the Weird and Worrying Questions sections and the Neutron Bullet chapter. Neutron stars are way denser than I imagined. Our universe is a crazy place!

I don’t read high fantasy very often but when I do, it better suck me in 100%! I love the world and the characters. I really hope the Darkling is redeemed somehow! Ready for #2

This was the first self-pubbed book I've read. It was fine, the writing voice felt stiff but I liked Nino and the concept. I'm not going to read the rest of the series though.

The author successfully avoided the Middle Book Trap, and this book was even better than the first! I love love love the characters and I’m totally sucked in by the mystery.

Pretty good if you are looking for repeatable weeknight basics. I snagged the recipes for some dressings and sauces, since I still haven’t learned to make those off the cuff, but the rest of the recipes are things I make without using a cookbook.
