I hadn't read this book since I was a kid, and I'm not sure I even read the "official" version, tbh. Anyways, this is such a fun story and so full of adventure! I loved the jokes/insults and Long John Silver is a character for the ages. His duplicitous nature is so well written. I was also surprised that, apart from the Miss Piggy storyline, Muppet Treasure Island follows the book quite closely.
March 2018 - My second time through, audio (amazing!!) this time. There's something magical about a book that makes you want to believe so hard in magic.
This is the third time I've read this book and I decided to read it in Portuguese. It was awful. The names of most characters were changed, plus the linguistic jokes got lost in translation (Diagon Alley, the Sorting Hat saying "I'll eat myself"...), so I decided to switch to the illustrated version half-way through. The illustrations add such beauty and magic to the story that I'd say it's the best version of the book. Unfortunately I don't have access to the rest of the illustrated series, so I'm not sure if I'll continue my re-read.
This was the first time I've read Agatha Christie since I was a teenager, so it was fun to step back in time. What has changed since then? Now I can understand Poirot's Frenchisms :)
This was a pretty good mystery even though I didn't really buy into the entire solution.

That was so lame. Zero percent of the characters' motivations made sense to me except for Charlie's initially wanting to return home to be with her grandma. There was a good premise and a good twist, but all of the characters' decisions were unbelievable.
Aahhh I loved it! An abandoned village in rural Sweden, a cult, paranormal activity, an unsolved mystery…… fantastic combo, really.
I went into this hoping for The Secret History, and I was disappointed. It was a pretty good mystery in and of itself, though. I'm just glad my favorite character didn't turn out to be the bad guy.
I DNFed this book the first time I tried reading it, but I'm so glad I gave this book a second chance <3 Heartbreaking, slow, contemplative, but also lovely.
