An aggravatingly beautiful story where form, characters, plot, and sentence level writing is at its peak. A winding toxic, insidious romance between an Egyptian-American woman and an Egyptian man in Cairo

I will be returning to this for the examinations of abusive and how identity complicates these dynamics

“I am wanting the abuse, or, at the very least, accepting it as mine. After years of claiming Arabness as an excuse for what I am—hairy, hard-boned and dirt-skinned, sensual, impulsive, superstitious, nostalgic, full of body-shame and estrangement—I feel I'm earning it at last.”

A stunning novel following Cora and Julia, two former lovers/best friends who return home to Brazil go on a road trip. This book is reflective and revealing. From the first page I knew I was in love with the voice and couldn't wait to see how the story unfolded

The perfect mixture of present, past, urgency, and motives

This has immediately become one of my all time favorites and I will be recommending it forever to those who are looking for "hot girl" or "sad girl" or "gay girl" lit especially because latina voices are so often missing in those spaces
