A chicano classic, at first I was a little hesitant, but I found these stories worked best when you take your time with them. I read each alone then would refer back to the introduction which has analysis of each story. Viramontes uses roaming POVs and leaves a lot unsaid in these stories, but I think after you find your footing it makes them incredible unique, impactful, and unforgettable 

a must-read memoir by Lamya H. She opens by telling the story of Maryam (also known as the Virgin Mary) and how at 14 as a South Asian Muslim immigrant in a rich Arab country she begins to discover queerness. It’s earnest and hopeful, touching yet informative. I really appreciated how her faith was never questioned, instead she finds her community that accepts her as a butch muslim <3

a vibes > plot novel about a 60 yr old artist who becomes obsessed w her estranged mother
