I wanted to like this book so much since I'm in love with Holly June Smith's other books... but it just didn't do it for me.

Bad:
  • I don't like Kara at all - her friends and Luke are her only redeeming qualities.
  • I can understand her heartbreak, but if I had a friend being that flakey and wishy-washy in her decisions to a Luke-type-dude (a year after Adam leaves her) I'd hold an intervention.
  • I also really disliked how Kara and Luke's losses kept getting compared when they are not in the same ballpark.
  • The big sex scene from her birthday seemed forced. I'm all for roleplay, but as a first time after they DON'T COMMUNICATE AT ALL - it made me uncomfortable.
Good:
  • Okay... and the first spicey scene was amazing.
  • Luke is nice - and also feral.

This was sold to me on bookstagram as a hockey romance… and it is NOT THAT lol. The book is a childhood abduction with a family reunion where the MMC happens to play hockey.

The plot wasn’t something I’ve read before but I really enjoyed it! Both main characters have some trauma - shocker - and them overcoming that is a main theme.

I could have done with 100 pages less - at the end I was annoyed with both of them… but again trauma lol

Spice was very good 🔥

Deim got more annoying, but I still blame Henri.
I can understand the choices she makes sometimes, wanting things to stay the same or to have a semblance of home. BUT COME ONNN!

Luther is the best, literally. What a king - he deserves an award 👑

And the side characters? ❤️💯

Quick little novella, perfectly Alessa Thorne and she can do no wrong 👑

Did not expect to read Dr. Doolittle meets little red riding hood - but she’s the Virgin Mary… or wants to be?
