This book had me from beginning to end. Discovering Lima Barreto has only brought me joy so far. The way he can put together his stories in such a concise and simple way, such a lovely and sad way. I don't even quite know how to describe my reading experience with this book.
Also, I recommend to anyone intending to read this book, to read at least a little bit on Brazilian history beforehand (specially relating to when the republic was first stablished). It'll make the reading experience easier, but also richer.

This one was better than the two first stories in the series, but can't compare to the other three. Let's see how the last one fares.
