I wanted to like this, but for that to happen, the author would've had to engage with the characterisation, plot, social structure, or even geography of pride and prejudice the novel, and that clearly did not happen. If you don't want to write a historical novel, you don't have to. If you don't want to write about the characters that are actually on the page in a book, don't remix that book. Pretty much zero characters in this were recognisable from the original, even accounting for the fundamental changes necessary for this story to exist. In what world would Jane Bennet say "you may have as many dances as you like", and how on earth is central London walkable from Longbourn when even southern Hertfordshire is 20 miles if it's a day. Great to write a trans version of p&p, but bloody hell, maybe also care about the rest of it?
