All that is unseen.

What happens when that faint line between imagination and reality is smudged? Would you be able to stop yourself from falling into darkness?

Thanks to the author for sending over this review copy :) .

This is the story of Arav who is an intelligent writer at a very young age. He meets a beautiful girl called Nasia and they instantly hit it off. But how long can Arav hide his imaginary friend from Nasia? The story gave me intense Fight Club feels but this one had its own twists and turns. It delivers a message about how serious mental disorders can be and how coping with it can be tough.
.
.
There were however a few drawbacks like repetitive grammatical errors. The language was quite casual with the usage of few words overly often. The plot was interesting but could have been executed better.
.
.
However, it’s commendable that a 21 year old has penned down this book..

Child of Paradise.

Let me thank the author @author.pratibha for being kind enough to lend me a review copy.

Do you believe in ghosts and paranormal existence? This book will make you question your belief. Child of Paradise is a gripping tale of Tia, a young adult who goes through emotional turmoil concerning her sister’s death. When Rianna dies suddenly, the police declare her death a cause of suicide due to lack of sufficient lead. But Tia is haunted by Rianna’s appearance in her dreams who tries to warn her.
.
.
The plot is very well executed with numerous twists and turns. Just when you think you know who the culprit is, the story takes you by surprise. This book speaks immensely about siblings and the bond that they share. It even highlights Tia’s relationship with friends and family. But will she be able to crack the mystery? Did Rianna truly commit suicide or was she murdered? .
.
Grab this book and enjoy because I wasn’t able to put it down till the secret was revealed.

I’ll be honest. I wasn’t sure about this book because I don’t often read Kannada novels. But this writer is very well known and after I put down this novel couple of days back, I bow down to him 🙌🏻 And considering that this book was published in 2007, I can imagine the kind of uproar it must have caused. .
.
.
Aavarana is a spectacular book that should be a wake up call to all Indians who have been writing false history for generations! I wouldn’t want to summarise the story and spoil the fun for others but I would really urge fellow book lovers to pick this up right now! Let me say this, even though there‘s a lot of fiction in this novel, the historical facts haven’t been tampered with. I would rate it 5/5. (10 if i could) .
.
This book is disturbing yet so utterly beautiful. .

P.S. I think I found my top favourite book of the year!

Would you believe if someone says that God will walk on this Earth once again and save the world? Will people of different religion and faith accept this or will it cause ripples of trouble?

The protagonist is a high profile journalist, Ross Hunter who decides to answer a phone call that changes his life forever. When an old man approaches him and conveys the message from God, little does Ross know what he’s getting into. Will Ross believe in the old man and carry out his instructions as said by God? Or will he listen to his mind and choose the practical way? This book has everything that a reader expects from a thriller and action packed read.
.
.
What starts as a task of curiosity, sets his life in motion when the old man says that Ross is the chosen one who can rescue the world. As I read along, I couldn’t put this book down. The rest of the novel speaks about Ross’s struggles and smartness in every move that he makes. It has the right set of villains and mystery to it that kept me on my toes! .
.
This was my first read by the author and post reading this, I’m sure i’ll pick up many of his works. This book will be getting published on October 4th 2018 and I’m excited that others will get a chance to read this brilliant book.

Just Missed. .

Thanks to the author for sending this review copy. .

I usually do not indulge in romance genre but I had the chance to review the author’s debut novel. The story revolves around three adults: Shreya, Shivam and Sid. When a very ambitious Sid agrees for an arranged matrimonial setup, he ends up meeting his dream girl, Shreya. As Sid and Shreya get to know each other, her friendship with Shivam turns out to be something more. The rest of the story is how Shreya figures out who’s best for her amongst the two men in her life. The story is very loosely constructed and at places felt almost very causal. The language is fairly simple and even includes Hindi phrases very often. The plot was nothing extraordinary and I felt like reading one of the books of romance back from my college days. .
.
The characters were very finicky and I personally felt that they could have been worked on much more. It had very Bollywood vibes to it with the typical love triangle situation throughout. Few scenes were too dramatic and could have been mellowed down just a tad bit. But considering that this was the author’s very first book, it is commendable for his language usage. .
.
I would rate it 2/5.

The Surrogate Lies.

This book took me by surprise. Beginning was a bit slow to my taste but gradually the story picked up pace and then there was no looking back. This book is marvellously written, with puns and humour ever so often. There are hundreds of us who have a monotonous routine, who hesitate to step out of their comfort zone and more often that not find themselves amidst boredom. If it’s you, pick this book up and give it a read. .
.
When the protagonist, Paul meets a stranger who has an air of mystery around him, little did he know that his life will take a turn in the future. The book revolves around four characters including Paul who’s a writer, Hazare (the stranger) , Raj (the driver) and Ben (foreigner). When they head out on an adventure, Paul realises what he has been missing out all these years. The adrenaline of being part of something unknown, the thrill of tackling the villains, and pure comedy, this book has it all. .
.
The author has done a splendid job in bringing the plot together and highlighting the characters. The vocabulary and writing skills are fabulous and easy at the same time. Given how this is his first novel, it’s an applaudable task. .
.
I would rate it 4/5.

Still Lives. .

Thank you @harpercollinsus for sending this review copy! .
.
There are many reviews going around saying that Still Lives is not a thriller that they expected it to be. And that’s true. .
.
When the ultra genius artist Kim Lord goes missing during the opening night of her new collection called Still Lives, a storm stirs up. Kim features as the murdered women across the country in her new art, posing in self portraits. It causes a ripple throughout the audience. .
.
Maggie Richter, an editor in the museum gets entangled in the missing case by being a suspect and also because her ex was Kim’s boyfriend. She tries resolving the mystery and is determined in catching the culprit. .
.
When the cops declare Kim dead, Maggie gets more consumed in the case and realises that her life isn’t safe anymore. .
.
This is one of the books that’s masterfully written and gives an insight about what goes on within the walls of a museum. It was refreshing and also informative. Initial pages of the story makes you want to finish the book fast so that you can reach the ending and figure out the mystery. But the story fell flat in the very end. .
.
The characters were too tangled and lacked emotions. This book was skilfully written yet it missed to deliver the sense of climax by going limp. .
.
I would rate this book 3/5.

Heart. .
.
Thank you @sandeepjauhar for being kind enough to send this review copy. .
.
I remember being fascinated by an organ the size of my fist when I sat in my Biology class back in school. This book takes me back to the days when I thoroughly enjoyed drawing heart structure into my records :) .
.
The author is a renowned cardiologist who has written two medical memoirs and is also a opinion writer for the Times. In this book, he talks about all the doctors who took great risks to conduct their studies on the most vital organ in the body. They were shunned, discouraged and critiqued for their research and interest in curing various diseases that plagued the heart. Contrary to what I thought, this book was not too difficult to comprehend. There are many medical terms, yes, but it has been explained in layman terms and also with a story behind every chapter to keep the readers interested. It’s truly marvellous how doctors over the years have improvised their devices to keep hearts beating in terms of sickness and also how procedures and surgeries were done back in the early days. .
.
The author himself has gone through a turbulent time when few members of his family faced heart problems and this piqued his interest in knowing and learning everything that he can to explore the vastness of the subject. His personal experience with patients and other peers are well portrayed in these pages and it makes you wonder how can a doctor’s hand be strong and steady as metal! This book was a welcome change to my reading pattern, making me nostalgic about my days of being a Biology student. .
.
Human body is capable of so many things and it’s a never-ending learning process. Being a doctor isn’t a easy thing. You have to have a courageous heart and nerves of steel to stand so firm on the ground when the world around you is in chaos. Heart is truly an awe inspiring book that educates people about all those people who were brave enough to go against the world in coming up with unique procedures to save dying and diseased men. .
.
I would rate this book 4/5.
