DNF @ 139 pages. Weird to say but- there’s too much dialogue: everyone is constantly talking but it doesn’t seem to be furthering the plot. Looking through the reviews (although mostly positive) it just seems this one may not be for me.

Book 3 follows Sieh the god of Childhood. His interactions with mortals and other gods as his nature changed was magnificent.

This does not specifically impact my review, but I audiobooked the previous 2 in the series & in my opinion audio is the way to go, the formatting & nature of the book: a vast story of gods, godlings & their impact on mortals; lends it well to oral storytelling, it feels like hearing a secret mythology around a campfire. 

The writing is good, Saint connected a multitude of Hera myths in a cohesive way, the set up shows Hera’s notorious wrath as a form of reactive abuse & that invoked empathy, but ultimately Hera’s ire was repeatedly misdirected & I just couldn’t relate to the redemption Saint was conveying for the goddess of marriage.

I  like Becky but this memoir didn’t go over for me. I wanted more detail & while I know some things have to remain mysterious there was plenty brushed off or sped through while analyzing the lead up in great detail -anything from matches to overcoming a mental health issue, there was more about unnamed fiancé #1 than Seth/Colby & I would have liked more about her mom life (may be biased I as a new mom). I liked the early years stuff though.

I get that it’s a metaphor for (in particular the Vietnam) War. I see what the purpose was. But holy moly was it boring.

I could not put this down. So good, and honestly so many layers, this would be a fun one to dissect with a book club. The way that Sciona grew from the start of the book through the end was just brilliant. & it really hit on the biggest obstacles trying to combat social Justice/societal issues & did it in a way that was very organic & heartfelt to the story.

The prose and setting are good, but not much is happening and it’s just boring me. Very similar to Lost Apothecary which I didn’t like.

Loved it. Admittedly I did not care about the “love triangle” & I wasn’t trying to think too hard about the logistics. But it was creepy, there was some good commentary that wasn’t overdone but would make sense for a YA audience as well & the MC reminded me of one of my close friends from High School. Just moody & fun.

I enjoyed it. The Scarpetta 1st person POVs are the best ones (idk why this series has so many format changes) the set up for this one was neat, but it did seem drawn out in the beginning w/3 different scenarios demanding Kay’s attention. & No idea why there had to be a connection with a victim & Scarpetta’s team… the amount of times that has happened is silly. But ultimately the action was so good
