I don’t read a lot of cozy mysteries, this was for a book club pick. But it was funny and entertaining. And now I have a corn casserole recipe.

”Horror Chick” has been my shtick for a WHILE.I am the target audience of this book but it missed the mark for me.

Jade’s inner monologue rambles so far into trivia, slang &metaphors it was at times impossible for me to tell what was happening. Gained momentum at40%+ but the end was so chaotic it took away from any character development.

An uncomfortable read, particularly for a childfree vegetarian cat owner

But I am enjoying this trend of mad as hell women, &shameless talk about bodily fluids &primal urges. & being fed up with gender roles & bias in society.

Yoder’s  writing is visceral & aggressive & unique. 🐺

Entirely worth the hype.
I was 100 pages in and nothing had really happened but the reveal was ✨brilliant✨ Chapters were short and the motives compelling so the pages were turning in the meantime.

Traumatized young woman returns to a house full of family secrets &a supernatural presence. This is the plot of many books. It’s a reworking of another book, The Great God Pan. the blurb says it’s Haunting of Hill House meets Knives Out. it is nothing like Knives Out, except for the 🏳️‍🌈
The audio performed by Megan Trout was stellar, the story flowed easily &characters were entertaining despite being trapped in a familiar plot.

It’s fun, funny at times.. but it lacks depth.

After saving his family with sheer luck, Bobby Ingersoll gives himself over to Chance. While there are some meta takes from Jillette on writers having to justify their characters actions, Bobby’s actions don’t have have to be justified bc they are Random. The plot is a little thin due to of that,& Bobby never had to learn anything because he’s not really in charge -the dice are

Not as strong as book 4, but it was a good plot. So parts were drawn out and ended the obvious way but some new magical alliances are set up for the next installment.

I am stunned that she didn’t take the “hush money”. If only because none of the adults in her life were ever looking out for her best interest, she had to spend so much time managing her mothers emotions that she could never stand up for herself. It took real fortitude. As heart wrenching& disturbing as this was her delivery was impeccable, it had moments of being truly humorous &inspiring.

DID NOT FINISH: 12%

I had difficulty with the format (it’s conversations between philosophers) and I do not find myself pondering the musings on justice and societal structure.
I will 3000% be keeping it on my shelf so that I appear to be a smart person.
