FMC thinks she is doing banter, but come across as rude. At 50% into the book it is explained why she keeps everyone at arms length &It gave perfect insight to her mind but was a long time to wait after fatphobia &spitting food 

🌶️🌶️🌶️but 🌶️doesn’t overwhelm the book, although 1 parts is def physically impossible (even if 1 person shapeshifts, even if *it* rotates)but there’s not much time spent on worldbuilding, weird stuff just kept happening

The MC of the book has DID (dissociative identity disorder) & 1 of the “headmates” has taken a position as caretaker at a castle isolated on an island, another headmate, after a long period of dormancy has to deal with this 

Given the mental health condition it’s tough to find a reliable narrator (multiple POVs)&Much of the mystery plays out inside the MC’s mind (but there’s plenty of weird stuff at the castle). 

I have never read anything like it. 

 

Combining 2 timelines, Anita’s inspiration & toxic marriage & Raquel’s experience as an art student at Brown add commentary on who gets to leave a legacy, the systems of oppression continue to fuel themselves while claiming the doors are open &men who use women as accessories to validate themselves. 

 

Slow to start. The ending wraps up a bit too quickly. But it was good.

reading about Anita & Jack and Raquel & Nick, I know I’d rather be thrown from a window than deal with anymore sulky Manbaby BS in my whole life

This was pretty nuts. 

At first I had difficulty keeping track of the POVs &their roles. &it’s at times ridiculous/unbelievable but kind of believable with how AI is taking over the world. 

But ultimately I really liked it. 

The survivalists, the “good billionaire” fallacy, the plot twists. 

How many people would you have to delete to save the world? 

-note: the full cast recording of the audio was super well done.

Parts seemed random, or escalated very quickly…. But it was enjoyable, a very quick and consumable read. I liked the riddle. I don’t know why every time there’s a “make someone fall in love with you to break the curse” the cursed person immediately acts like the absolute worst person imaginable but that seems par for the course. 

The beginning 1/3 of the book was very compelling & described exactly what Wilkerson dubbed the American Caste system &just how extreme it is. 
After that, there were parts I found redundant, or random, & occasionally contradictory. 

A good read to check your biases, understand why there’s still such a divide here, &/or further radicalize you.

This was very disturbing, thought provoking & truly strange. 

This thriller set in Detroit follows a varied cast of characters as a grisly murder impacts them &their communities with an eye towards art, social media & societal issues.

The main story was like The Walking Dead but without the zombies.
