Softer and kinkier than the first in the series. (Good for you, Tessa ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป)

I love the lore and world that Guerre is creating here.

I am invested. Will Maika ever catch a damn break? Stay tuned.

I liked the second installment far more than the first and I think it's due to:

1. Me having a better grasp of the flow in storytelling
2. Not as many ambiguous time jumps in this one
3. Way more focus on the characters and the journey vs the heavy world-building in the first.

Super invested in the characters and where this is going

Heather Guerre was on her shit with this one ๐Ÿ˜˜๐ŸคŒ๐Ÿป

I loved the depictions of depression and anxiety in Grace's story.

A reread via audio so I could listen to Cooper North do his thing. And yeah, he was great.

I love my nerdy hockey dads so much. ๐Ÿฅน

More mid-life queer awakenings please ๐Ÿฉท

Another great start to a Zoey Draven series! Is it necessary to read the previous series before this one? No, but I did love all of the mentions of characters from that series.

Will add in some more details about what I enjoyed (there was a lot!)

My only issue is the way the end of the book really slowed down and kind of dragged (after the big moment in act 3). I do get that we're setting up for the series to continue but I felt like I slogged through the last few chapters.

*Big thank you to the author for an advance e-copy*

And it was in that moment that Eveen, without regret or remorse, chose violence.

... Really, Eveen? Was it JUST that moment specifically? ๐Ÿ’€

This was fun as hell! More undead assassins, please!

And Lynnette R. Freeman nailed that narration.

Me, the entire time I was reading this book: ๐Ÿ˜จ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿซฃ๐Ÿ˜…

How fun is it to randomly pick up a book (because one of your favorite authors blurbed it) and have it turn out to be one of your faves for the year?

A collection of dark and wildly funny interconnected short stories exploring rejection and the ways it poisons these characters and throws their lives into chaos.

Also maybe a great reminder that we should all step away from social media now and again ๐Ÿ˜…
