They Called Us Enemy
by Justin Eisinger, Steven Scott, George Takei
4.5/5 (physical book)
This is the second graphic novel I have read and enjoyed so much. Usually, I have a hard time getting into graphic novels because I find it easier to read in a linear form, but George Takei's novel was crafted in such a beautiful way with amazing illustrations that really complimented the story.
They Called Us Enemy tells the atrocious conditions Japanses Americans faced after the bombing of Pearl Harbor during World War II. Takei recounts the horrible treatment and blatant racism Japanese Americans endured from their home country of the United States.
This book is a great way for youth readers to truly understand the hardships these individuals faced and includes details that are often forgotten about in history textbooks.
