The Push by Ashley Audrain
5.0

A dark, disturbing and frighting look at both motherhood and childhood! ⁣

This seems to be the kind of psychological thriller that you either love or hate. Based on my 5 star rating you can see I loved it! This book had me hooked yet feeling uncomfortable as I read it. ⁣

Blythe had a less than nurturing childhood and is determined to be the kind of mother she never had. But when her daughter, Violet, is born she suffers from postpartum depression and doesn’t bond with her baby as she had hoped. As the years go on, she believes that something is wrong with her daughter but her husband doesn’t see it or believe it. Is her child truly evil and capable of deliberately heinous acts or is Blythe more like her own mother than she’d care to admit? ⁣

There were some disturbing moments in this book, made even more chilling because they involved a child. Is there anything scarier than an evil child? Soooo creepy! This book had me on edge as I tried to sift through to the truth - who was truly the problem in this family, the mother or the daughter? I couldn’t pull myself away from this audiobook and I binged it in a day. After the constant push & pull and up & down in my thoughts and feelings while reading this book, the ending simply left me shook! Loved it! Can’t wait to see more from this author in the future.⁣

Thank you Penguin Random House Audio for gifting me the audiobook. All opinions are my own.
