I'm a huge fan of Peter Pan, and I loved this adventurous retelling. There were specific twists to the J.M. Barrie story that I actually really loved (I won't write them here because of spoilers).
I didn't think much of the writing. I wasn't distracted by it in either a good or bad way. In that sense, I suppose it did it's job in keeping me engaged with the story. That being said, I found the book to be very plot-driven.
I will say that I had a hard time withthe romance between Peter and Wendy. I'm not really sure why. Perhaps I found it to be kind of forced? Lots of longing stares at bare-chested Peter. It just might have not been my thing. I'm sure other people really loved this.
I'd suggest this book for anyone that enjoys Peter Pan and retellings. It was a dark and mature twist to a already loved classic.
