Sadie's dream is to finish the Texas River Odyssey, which every member of her family has done so far. Her first year competing, she breaks two ribs and gets a concussion in an accident, and her father takes it poorly. He refuses to race with her the next year, and also seems to side with her brother when HE decides not to race with her at the last minute. So she's forced to race with her ex-best friend, Cully, who also has an awful father. Together they work through the pain of the race to learn some lessons about themselves and their history.
