Such a Fun Age
by Kiley Reid
This book is a masterclass in micro aggressions from white people. Sometimes overt, sometimes sub text. I don’t think I’ve read something with this subject matter packaged in this way. It’s just the fairly standard days of a PoC living her life, experiencing this shit all the time.
Granted, it plays with time somewhat as we get some POV of another character, but those events too are casual events depicting casual racism.
The only thing that bothered me was that it didn’t really feel like the story was going someplace so the conclusion wasn’t very satisfying. It serves its purpose and does it quite well. But the plot itself isn’t very compelling, I felt.
