The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
5.0

”People like us in situations like this become hashtags, but they rarely get justice. I think we all wait for that one time though, that one time when it ends right.”

This book truly left me speechless. It was so powerful and moving and just so real. This is a book that is so needed right now and I’m so happy that it has gotten all of the praise and attention it deserves. And I’m so happy that I finally read it.

Angie Thomas wrote such a brutally honest account of Starr’s life and what she went through. I loved Starr’s character so much. She was fierce and brave and stood up for what she knew was right. I honestly loved the rest of the characters too. The emphasis on family in this book was one of my favorite elements, and just the sense of community in general. This book truly doesn’t hold anything back. Angie Thomas says it just like it is and brought up so many important issues like police brutality, racism, and prejudice. Please read this book and continue to pass it along to others.
