After his girlfriend Clea gets sent across the country for boarding school and an injury ends his football career, Cody is at loose ends. His life slowly devolves into a depressing routine of work, booze, and boredom- until he hears that Clea has gone missing. Still in love with the girl who is now his ex, Cody packs up and road trips from Colorado to Vermont to aid in the search. Everything is not what it seems, and no one can be trusted.

While I zoomed through this story, owing to its accessible writing style and compelling mystery, I did notice that the pacing seemed somewhat off. Every development in the case happens within the last 75ish pages of the book, which ramps up the tension and keeps you hooked at the expense of making the book as a whole feel unbalanced. An unsatisfying ending exacerbates this issue. I enjoyed this book, but I also found it somewhat frustrating.
