Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire
4.0

The title and cover suggest something that is not a book about a home for wayward girls who have traveled through doorways to other worlds and dimensions. As always Seanan's voice shines through, full of wit, empathy, and somehow hopeful cynicism. I also applaud the diversity and range of characters, though most felt undeveloped. The book could've been twice as long. That said, I enjoyed this very short read, though the ending left me conflicted. As a ever-ending dreamer I loved Nancy's resolution. As a parent, seeing it from that perspective, it was profoundly depressing. She was taken. You never understood her anyway. A worst-nightmare for me as a parent.
