Klara's Truth: A Novel
by Susan Weissbach Friedman
emotional
informative
slow-paced
At almost 50, Klara learns the truth about her father... He died in a train crash and was brought to his home country of Poland to be buried. Desperate to know more about him, despite her mother wanting her to go for the reparations the government is going to give them, Klara heads to Poland and connects with her father's sister.
Klara has a lot to learn and she gets to know more about Polish Jews through her family history and her new friendship with Filip. Her Aunt Rachel is a beautiful soul and I'm glad Klara got to know her. Klara has a very rocky start with her cousin Hanna who thinks she's just here for the money, but they soon become close. I'm proud of Klara for going to therapy to help her work through some things in her life and how it helps her stand up to her mother.
The author did a great job of research for this novel and I'm glad for the things I've learned.
