Mask is unemployed and depressed and grieving the deaths of their grandmother and dog. Soon they are targeted by a creature called The Nothing that goes after people who are isolated like Mask is. Mask has figure out how to defeat The Nothing or let it take them. At some point they become friends with a homeless black trans man who goes by V. I really liked reading this book. It is both scary and funny, as well as insightful. Also I was not expecting Mask to be aroace because aromanticism and asexuality are still very underrepresented which really sucks, but anyway I felt happy when I read that. The friendship between Mask and V was so sweet and wholesome and I liked reading how they looked after each other. I am definitely looking forward to reading else Alvar Theo publishes in the future.
