The Crackledawn Dragon by Abi Elphinstone
3.25

This is the final book in a series, The Unmapped Chronicles, but I had no problem understanding it without having read previous books in the series, and there appears to be a different protagonist for each book.

What I like about the book is its focus on friendship and found family. The main character Zeb has spent his life in foster care, going from one house to another, and the main arc of the book is him learning to trust and to find people who care about him. I also like the fantasy worldbuilding and particularly the dragon.

Unfortunately I wasn't keen on the way the book was written, and having felt similarly about another book by Elphinstone, sadly I just don't think her writing style works for me. I suspect I'm in the minority there, I do have friends who love her books.

Not a personal favourite but I suspect a lot of people will really enjoy this book.
