Midwinter Murder by Agatha Christie
3.0

Short story collections are just one of the things I really like but don't read enough. Midwinter Murder was perfect whenever I wanted something light but didn't have much time or energy to focus on anything long form, like during a weekday breakfast, a coffee/cocoa break in the afternoon, or before going to sleep. It's one of those books that you can let sit on your nightstand and pick it up again after a long while without losing as much of your connection to it as you would with a novel.

It doesn't have Christie's best work, but I prefer her novels anyway. The short stories feel like glimpses to her usual stuff but don't really add much of interest to it. I did enjoy all of these to varying degrees, however (apart from Problem at Pollensa Bay, a romantic story with a little twist at the end, but not really a mystery and didn't quite fit in terms of the sunny location either). Harley Quin's stories weren't my favorite, but he's an interesting and slightly bizarre "detective" who just hovers around and sometimes appears out of nowhere and disappears the same way, seeming almost supernatural.
