The Silence of Bones by June Hur
4.0

I picked up this book because of the Koreadathon (06. - 12. 07. 2020) where it was chosen as the group book of that readathon.

This book!
When I started reading I wouldn't have thought I like it so much. Both, historical and crime stories are usually not within my comfort zone. However, June Hur did a fantastic job bringing Joseon Korea to life which instantly pulled me in. I enjoyed seeing the story unfold within this setting and learn more about that time while doing so. I really appreciated the authors note in the end where we were told facts about the issue that was brought to light through the murder. That was very interesting to learn.

The murder mystery was written really well and it kept me turning the pages to find out. The reveal was surprising which for stories like this is a big plus in my opinion.

Most of all I enjoyed learning about Seol and her family. She was a great character to read about. Her backstory was interesting and it was inspiring to see what she was able to do despite the rank she was in. I loved seeing her determination as well as her loyalty. The perfect main character for an amazing book like this.

In short! Amazing book that I really enjoyed. Definitely a new favourite. Which there were more books like this out there
